In my first digital marketing class, we learned the basics of website building: how to choose a domain name, find hosting, and decide between platforms like WordPress, Wix, and Weebly. We even touched on how AI is reshaping the landscape making it possible to generate websites in minutes with tools I hadn’t even heard of a month ago.

It was supposed to be technical. But for me, it wasn’t just about launching a site. It felt like launching a version of myself I haven’t fully met yet.  Here’s the part they don’t teach you in tech tutorials: When you’re standing at a crossroads, personally and professionally, building a website feels symbolic. Like putting a stake in the ground and saying, “This is who I am right now.”

That’s where I am. I’m not a polished agency. I’m not a beginner forever, just someone in the middle of reinvention, showing up in the in-between, learning by doing, building while becoming.

This site, The Branded Fox, is more than a portfolio. It’s proof that it’s okay to start while still figuring things out. It’s a place for growth, for testing ideas, and evolving in public. It’s a place to feel safe while still learning.

The 5 Steps they teach you:

  • Choosing a domain name (your little corner of the internet).
  • Finding a host (the place where all your site’s files live).
  • Picking a platform like WordPress, Wix, or Weebly to bring it all to life.
  • Securing it with an SSL certificate (so visitors feel safe).

The Step They Don’t Teach You

What they don’t mention in the tutorials is how building a website can feel deeply personal.

When you’re standing at a crossroads—professionally, creatively, even personally—putting your name on a site feels like planting a flag in the ground and saying:

“This is who I am right now. And this is where I’m headed.”

That’s where I am today.

I’m not a polished agency. I’m not a beginner forever, either. I’m someone in the middle of reinvention, showing up in the in-between—learning by doing, building while becoming.

Empty winding road through a scenic forest with fall foliage, perfect for travel inspiration.

Why The Branded Fox Exists

This site isn’t just a portfolio. It’s proof that it’s okay to:

  • Start before you feel ready.
  • Share ideas that aren’t perfect yet.
  • Grow out loud.

The Branded Fox is a space for experimenting, evolving, and exploring what it means to create work that feels true.

Because reinvention isn’t a single “aha!” moment, it’s a process. And I’m inviting you to witness mine.

Final Thought

If you’ve ever felt like you had to have it all figured out before you start, this is your permission slip to begin anyway.

It’s not about perfection.
